Baruch Archery Club Summer Practice
Baruch College is the only CUNY establishment that has an archery club and offers archery as a student activity. That alone has been an incentive for prospective students to enroll at Baruch College, including top-ranked archers from other countries. Archery Club currently has a member of this caliber who wishes to continue improving her archery skill. Archer Club practices are held on Saturdays from 6pm-9pm and Sundays from 4pm-6pm. All equipment is free to use through the club and all coaching is done by in-club members and volunteering alumni. During the Spring and Fall semesters we have active members of at least 25 students, eight of whom compete in local and national tournaments; one of our recent alumni has taken first place at the NYSAA Indoor Championship held locally. The dedication of our members are unquestionable, but more so when the summer starts. For the past ten years Archery Club has always been grated summer practices, still following our normal weekend schedule; that is, until this summer of 2012. For very unprecedented reasons, Archery Club has been denied practice over the summer, much to the dismay of our members and interested students who didn't have time before. Not only is it a unique sport but a mental de-stressor for our members. By not allowing us to hold Summer practice sessions, it forces veteran members to seek other areas to practice (which are rather quite expensive, compared to free), newly dedicated members to halt their growth and lose muscle memory (which is a major component in the sport of archery), and new incoming members wanting to get into this sport, not being able to participate because there isn't an area where they can practice. It would deal a great blow to the club as it would hinder the growth and spread of such a great and awesome sport. As well as hinder the growth of the club, since Baruch is the only CUNY school to offer such a unique sport. We, the Archery Club, ask for your help and consideration to bring back our summer practices. It would absolutely help the club grow as well as spread archery to people since it recently reemerged into the world. Please sign the petition and make this sport available at Baruch College for its students again.
