My daughter has a medical condition where she has to use the bathroom with very little warning sometimes and if she holds she gets infections. She had the same band teacher, the same band room last year. So conditions were fine. This 7th grade year her teacher made her wait and ask 4 times to use the bathroom which made my daughter pee herself. I sent an email asking why the teacher did not let her go, and a second telling her my daughter now has an infection due to making her wait. My daughter was thrown out of the class for this, teacher claimed she was intimidated by threatening emails from parent. Even though my daughter who is an A student ranked #1 in her class, did absolutely nothing wrong. I want my child to be able to return to band. Music is her life, and even though this teacher has done this, my daughter is acting with maturity and still wants to play her flute! This is not a matter of using the bathroom to get out of class, she has a hyperactive bladder, which is small and no tone, that contracts and voids without much warning. She goes from nothing to desperate in 1 minute and is unable to hold. If she does hold as long as she can she gets sick with an infection, which can back up to her kidneys. It is an absolute outrage that ANY child is denied or delayed using the bathroom.
I am still reading through the messages you have left here and I am truly humbled by how many people understand the simple need for basic compassion. My daughter and I are just trying to navigate this quietly, but knowing so many of you are watching makes us feel much less alone.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the kindness shown to my daughter these past few days. It turns out that when people see something unfair they truly step up to help. This progress belongs entirely to all of you who cared enough to notice.

Ridiculous power trip. If a student has a medical note the teacher has to follow it. Period.

Unbelievable. Schools are supposed to be safe places not places where you get humiliated because of a bladder condition. Let her back in!

This is completely ridiculous! No kid should be treated like that especially for a medical issue. Let her back in class.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Poor girl just wants to play her flute. Shame on that teacher.

What is wrong with that teacher? My kid had a similar thing and you just let them go. Basic human decency people.
