Dear Overstrand Municipality,
We, the Voelklip residents are imploring you to please take proper responsibility for the monitoring, supervision and control of the baboon population within the confines of our suburb.
It has come to our attention that Voelklip is not the only affected suburb in Hermanus. Baboons are also marauding in Fernkloof, Hermanus Heights, Mossel River, the Hermanus Golf course and parts of Eastcliff as well as areas such as Onrus and Vermont. Thousands of Rand's of damage are being caused to homes and gardens, damages that are not covered by insurance companies in South Africa. The situation has become untenable and we are literally being held captive in our own homes. The baboons have become a lot more aggressive and destructive of late and people live in fear of their animals and even themselves getting attacked.
We therefor request that this matter receives your immediate attention.

We have had extensive damage inside as well as outside of our house in 115 6th Street. This despite having burglar bars Trellidors and keeping doors and windows closed most of the time. Like living in a jail.... baboons around house on daily basis!
My dogs foot was broken when a baboon pushed loose cement bricks over onto the dog as it jumped up against the wall and kicked against the bricks. R6000 in vets bills, a limping dog and 3 months recovery. Not the baboons fault neither the dogs, but better management would be appreciated.
The new initiative to control baboon access to residential needs to be extended to cover the length of the berg adjacent to these areas. It has worked in Gordon's Bay, and may be made to work here.
It is important that for the welfare of the baboons and the residents of Hermanus to go back to paid monitors. Public prepared to pay a levy.
Please please do something I have had a huge male run at me twice in my garden, they have got into my house so many times totally terrorizing my dog and I - thinking of leaving Hermanus, as I can't live like this.
Tired of being a prisoner in my own home.
Just had another trashed experience again today! Please bring them back!

The baboon monitors did amazing work, and the programme also created much needed employment for our community. Without them, the baboons have become more and more brazen in their destruction, with increasing levels of aggression.
