I have been in the depths of despair after our youngest child was diagnosed with autism, I began the arduous task of trying to find therapies that would be his cure from autism. I then set about trying to find other parents who had been where I was in hopes they would show me how they got through it. What I found instead were parents jaded by the school districts, medical community, regional center and fellow parents of so-called typical children. I have come through the past decade with the understanding and clarity of the saying, "It isn't what life gives you but how you deal with it that makes the difference." We have found our way, do we still have struggle? Yes, we are human as long as we are human beings we will constantly be fine-tuning this life experience but oh how sweet it has become and it can be for all. It is my profound hope to be the voice of hope for all newly diagnosed parents with these incredibly brilliant children. Together we can embrace diversity, not simply for those diagnosed with what many may call a dis-Ability but for all. Teaching by example the power of Unconditional LOVE. I have found AWE in Awetism and each parent can find their way as well. It is about the journey not the destination, we have a choice, you can choose to 'see' everything has gone wrong or you can 'choose' to see everything has gone perfectly; these children have come forth en mass to show humanity a new way of BEing.
Needed this reminder today. Its been a long week and sometimes its hard to see the big picture but this really hit home.

Such a beautiful perspective. We need more positivity like this instead of focusing on what people think is wrong with our kids. My son is amazing just how he is.
