Dear Belmont Selectman:

LC Variety (or L.C. Variety "Lottery Agent" as their storefront says) has had three armed robberies in recent years (July 2009, Feb 2013, and Dec 2013). None of the suspects in these robberies were from the town Belmont. We do not believe it is in the best interest for the safety of our community to allow LC Variety to sell alcohol.

For these and multiple other reasons, as listed in the individual comments, we urge you to deny LC Variety's application for a beer and wine license.

Thank you for your careful consideration of this matter.

Sincerely, Concerned Belmont Citizens

NOTE: This letter is very basic and focused on the single goal of denying the application. It focuses on crime, even though there are many other critical issues. Feel free to share personal concerns and opinions, but do so in the comment under your "signature". All individuals comments will be shared with the selectman prior to the meeting Thurs night.

Important Claification: LC Variety has submitted the only application for the 2 available "wine and beer" licenses in Belmont. The Selectmen must look at it separately from the 3 applications for the single "all-alcohol" license available. Three robberies in that spot is way too many. Why would we want to start selling booze there and make it even more of a target? It just doesnt make any sense for our neighborhood.

This is also a store that children frequent, versus a specialty store that only adults would typically shop at like the ones being proposed in other areas of Belmont. Also, for all those concerned with the other locations being near a school, this one is only a few blocks from Butler Elementary.

If I were a young adult without a car, I would head here to get booze/tobacco. With CVS's policy to stop selling tobacco, this will be the next closest location to go. I would prefer Beer and Wine to be sold at Shaw's where there are more eyes watching and ears paying attention, and which is a far safer location for members of our community to shop within our community. (Noting that the robbers were from Lynn and Walpole.) Julie Schwendiman Crockett 232 Trapelo Rd
