Recently
the residential corner of Elk Rd. and Legion Rd. was petitioned to
become rezoned commercial. This opens the door for commercial
encroachment into several quiet residential neighborhoods in the town of
Hope Mills. The Legion Rd. corridor serves as the entrance way to six
established neighborhoods, three schools and three churches.
Although
this particular situation is a Hope Mills issue, it is increasingly
becoming a county-wide problem. If you agree that we need to protect our
neighborhoods, schools and churches from commercial encroachment,
please sign this petition and share it with as many others as possible.
This petition will be presented to the Hope Mills Board of Commissioners
and our Cumberland County Board of Commissioners at a future meeting.
I grew up in Hope Mills and now reside in north Cumberland County. I've watched neighborhoods be absorbed while the town loses its character. You may as well gut Haymount for store space in old Fayetteville.

traffic on legion rd is already a nightmare during school hours. adding more stores is just gonna make it impossible for us to turn out of our driveways.

I grew up and was raised in Hope Mills. I lived in Pinewood lakes all my life and attended Legion Road Elementary (now Baldwin Elementary) SouthView Jr and Senior high school. I lived in Hope Mills when all there was downtown hope mills was the beautiful lake, tasty freeze, and the drug store that sold Orange Pineapple ice cream. It was a great town to grow up in and I have a lot of great childhood memories. Now Hope Mills is so contested that I hate even driving through there. Let's all pull together and keep the beautiful neighborhoods congested free along legion rd and Elk rd. I love growing up in the very small town of Hope Mills and I am very proud to call it my home town.
