Please sign the petition to support the proposed reduction of pupil admission numbers (PAN) from 38 to 30.

We are in a period of consultation and parent support is invaluable to add weight to the case to reduce the PAN as soon as possible

It will only take 30 seconds of your time.

Thanks in advance, Ashwell School Headteacher & Governing Body

Updates

The local authority is still stalling on our demand to reduce the PAN to 30. Their indecision is putting our children's learning environment at risk while we wait for a common sense decision.

June 21, 2016

The local council cannot ignore this surge of support for our classrooms. Their refusal to acknowledge the strain on our staff ends now because we are making the scale of this problem impossible for them to dismiss.

The PAN of 38 means either too large a class or two uneconomic ones. Opting for the second of these has wrecked our finances. Moreover, that figure is no longer needed to meet local demand. It needs to be reduced urgently to enable the school to function efficiently.

Our daughter is in a class of 38 next year, which is surely not fair for any of the children, and the school infrastructure and physical space is just not sufficient for a school with classes of this size.

My son came from the US and was 2 years behind his classmates academically. The Ashwell teachers have spent hours at lunch and afterschool to help him catch up. For all the kids like Jake, and all the teachers who put their own time in to educate these kids - please reduce the PAN for our wonderful school

The PAN of 38 is leading to large class sizes without sufficient income to employ additional teaching staff. Some proposed class sizes are now a national outlier (largest 0.5% of class sizes in the UK). This is leading to inequalities that could adversely affect children at Ashwell School.

As a parent with a child in the class of 38 I am worried about the pressure on staff and children. I feel that no child whatever their abilities will be able to meet their potential. The pressure on the single teacher will be immense and I'm not sure how she will achieve quality teaching and marking.

PAN reduction is essential - all children especially children with special needs that are not eligible for funded support would not be able to cope and have their needs met in such large classes working on an average budget.

I understood 30 was the absolute maximum for classes. How come this rule is being ignored?
