Argyll & Bute Council: Build a new concrete skatepark as part of the Helensburgh Pierhead Development.
Our current skatepark, although well-used, is unsuitable for purpose and the Helensburgh Pierhead Development Masterplan makes no provision for a new one. Helensburgh's residents deserve a safe, challenging, well-designed concrete skatepark to use for skateboarding, BMX, scootering, skating and trials bikes. One hundred people have signed this now. It has been a long and draining week of trying to get people to pay attention to our need for a real skatepark. I am exhausted by the slow pace of this fight but seeing these names gives me the grit to keep pushing.

There are hardly any free activity places left for children outdoors in Helensburgh. New government policies are highlighting the importance of preventing and tackling child's obesity, yet very little is done to encourage it for families that cannot afford to pay for various sports kids clubs.
My son regularly used the current skatepark when he was younger. It would be a real pity for future generations not to have the same opportunity as he enjoyed. If Helensburgh is to be successfully redeveloped, provision for the upcoming generation is essential.
the kids shouldn’t have to travel to Unit23 to skate- great in poor weather but sometimes local is vital. Provided that it’s well maintained it will save the council money in the long run. Purpose built - see the skate park that was Eventually built in Kirkintilloch.
Being a skateboard instructor, I know first hand how much the existing park needs a better structure to it. These kids will have a better opportunity and experience with a fresh, newly constructed skatepark.
I think after the children initially raising the money for the first skate park which was then moved you should defiantly rebuild a better skate park for the children as there is very little for that age group to do in helensburgh and also it is a great form of physical exercise.
Clearly needed, let’s do this!!
Do you want to see even more young kids to do stupid stuff like drink drugs and smoking or do you want to see them getting into a sport? My answer is the second one. Get a good skatepark built!

Our kids need something to do and somewhere to go in Helensburgh. It is a ghost town and the square is being used for bmx-ing and skating which makes it unsafe for pedestrians. Our kids deserve more!
