On the 13th of June, Kingborough Council will vote on whether to approve the development application for the redevelopment of the public toilet block at Kingston Beach. The toilet block has been delapidated and out of date now for many, many years.
The development will transform the over 30 year old site into a modern, multi-purpose facility for the Kingston Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, public toilets, public change rooms and commercial facilities to enhance the viability of the project.
The Tasmanian State Government have already committed funds to make this project a reality. The final hurdle is development approval from the Kingborough Council. Unfortunately Council officers have recommended to Councillors that the project be refused planning permission.
These facilities are desperately needed at Kingston Beach. We call on Kingborough Councillors to approve the development and give ratepayers with the most popular beach in Southern Tasmania the facilities they deserve and our Lifesavers who provide such valuable volunteer service the facilities they need to continue to keep our community safe.

Seeing this level of support for the new clubhouse fills me with such hope for our volunteers. It is clear that our community recognizes how vital these lifesaving facilities are for the safety of everyone who visits Kingston Beach.

Seeing one hundred people rally behind this project proves how much our community values the safety of our beach. I remember standing by those crumbling toilets with the lifesavers and wondering if anyone else saw the need for change. Thank you for proving that this matters to all of us.

My own kids learn to swim at that beach and seeing these volunteers work out of a crumbling shack is heartbreaking. We are pushing toward one hundred signatures and I need you to send this link to your neighbors right now to show the council how many of us demand a safer coast.

This development is absolutely necessary and inline with the redevelopment of the cafes 50m down the road several years ago. To deny this is to hold back the growth of one of the finest beaches close to Hobart.
This will be a community asset for the benefit of the whole community not just the Surf club. I actually own the Kingston Pool and Wellness Centre and we are currently negotiating a joint venture with the surf club which will have massive benefits for our community.
We frequently visit Kingston beach and love the area - however we have three young children and the lack of suitable change rooms / toilets is disappointing. A surf club would be fantastic and I believe ore people would join as active members.
The current facilities are a disgrace. The club members who give up 30-50 hours each summer deserve more respect. They give to the community by saving lives, it's time for the community to support them and give back.
This is sensible, well considered development that is sorely needed. The current facilities for the Kingston Beach Surf Life Saving Club are abysmal and the public toilets less than ideal. If this does not proceed is there an alternative?

If you reject the planning for the club house, how do you exspect the life savers to do their job? To expand the membership which in turn makes the beachs in the area safer. It also would generate more income for the local businesses What are the alternatives?
