OPPOSE ESKOM'S PROPOSED ELECTRICITY TARRIF HIKES.
We, the undersigned, strongly oppose Eskom’s recent application to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) for exorbitant electricity price increases:
- 36.1% in April 2025
- 11% in 2026
- 9.1% in 2027
These proposed hikes come at a time when communities are already burdened by soaring food, petrol, and transport costs, making basic living expenses unaffordable for many South Africans. An electricity tariff increase of this magnitude will worsen the cost of living crisis, further straining workers, unemployed households, and the middle class.
As part of our commitment to tackling the high cost of living, the ANC Regional Task Team is submitting this petition to oppose these unjustified increases. Together, let us stand for fair, affordable electricity tariffs that protect the livelihoods of our communities.

I am a pensioner the grant that I received from Sassa is not enough to cover to month end with this current charge what more to the terrific hike
As people of Vosloorus we can't expect this Eskom is really really playing games with aware live's we can't even pay it now how are we going to pay what they are coming up with now?
ESCOM must drop its tariffs by 86% to make electricity affordable and that will make many buy electricity instead of doing izunyokanyoka. More money will be generated from the majority instead of a few rands from the overburdened minority workers and pensioners. The economy will also improve.
Increase of electricity will result to more poverty and cause more interruptions ,illegal connections as unemployment is very high
How can we survive we have a high unemployment rate, we have not even accomplished any 17 SDG goals yet how can Eskom come and raise electricity prices without thinking for the country
THESE PRICES HAVE DESTROYED OUR ECONOMY AND OUR GOVERNMENT KEEPS ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN.I WILL STOP PAYING NOW TO HELL WITH ESKOM AND INCREASES THESE PEOPLE ARE A BUNCH OF GREEDY THIEVES CAUSING SUFFERING TO MILLIOMS
