Lifetime Fitness confirmed they are installing cold plunges in the women locker rooms. We pay the same fees and now we get the same access. Thank you for pushing for this.

Lifetime fitness does not offer a cold plunge to the women at lifetime fitness, however, the men do have access to this amenity. Women must pay the same fees, so we should have access to equal amenities as well.

Twin Cities cold thermogenesis was started by a group of women where they swim three times a week in the middle of winter in Cedar Lake located in Minneapolis, MN. Men were allowed to join us but the group is still 70% female. Women see the benefits of cold plunge and would like to have access to such an amenity if the men are able to do this.

The momentum is undeniable and proves how many of us want fair access. This conversation is officially gaining real traction.

If this doesn't work you're welcome to join me in pursuing legal action: Minn. Statute 363A.11, subdiv. 1(a) Full and equal enjoyment of public accommodations: “It is an unfair discriminatory practice: (1) to deny any person the full and equal enjoyment of ... facilities ... and accommodations of a place of public accommodation because of race ... sex”.

Prior to the club opening and prior to signing up I asked specifically if there would be a cold plunge. I was told there would be. They neglected, however, to mention it would be located in the men’s locker room and that I would have no access. I was very disappointed at the grand opening party to discover this fact.

Justifying this with women have more beauty products in their locker is insulting and insinuates beauty is more important than health. Why not let the women decide what their priorities? So what about the weight rooms and gym courts that are dominated by men. Seems like a pattern for LifeTime since they closed down the only woman’s gym in Roseville.

Fuzzy logic at best - I was told it was due to “hygiene”. As a retired GYN I’d like to hear the science behind that. I suspect there isn’t any…

I first tried cold plunge on a retreat this spring and would love to make it a part of my health journey. I was excited to see that LT has it, but then found out it wasn’t offered to the women. I’m hoping that LT realizes the benefits and opens it up to women as well. Thank you.

Lifetime has done such an amazing job of promoting the wellness of its members and a culture of equality and inclusiveness. Please receive this feedback with an open heart. The cold plunge is an essential tool for all members - nationwide. We all need this. As there are many options for hot tubbing, perhaps it would be economic to convert a co-gender hot tub to cold plunge by exchanging the heater for a chiller. Of course, equality won’t be achieved until there are balanced amenities for men and women. But while the latter will require more resources, this is an interim, low cost solution that can be applied while solving the greater inequality. Thank you for all you do for us.

This is very unfair especially because we pay the same. If we don’t have one either lower our monthly fee or get us a cold plunge!

How is this fair?
