In an effort to provide economic flexibility to local businesses in the area, the following has been suggested to amend the City of Valparaiso's ordinance relating to the sale of on-premise alcoholic beverages. The ordinance currently does not allow for the sale of alcoholic beverages on-premise at an establishment that is within 600 feet of an existing public school or church. The amendment would reduce the 600 foot radius to 200 feet.

The ordinance would be amended to read:

"Retail stores, including department stores, drugstores, grocery stores and cafes, hardware, florists, nurseries and greenhouses for retail only, photo shops, sporting goods, travel bureaus, minute markets, 7-11 stores and restaurants/supper clubs that may or may not serve alcoholic beverages, excluding junk dealers, auto wrecking, mechanical garages or any other business in which the materials sold are not housed in a building, and excluding any store which sells beer, malt beverages, wine, liquor or other intoxicating beverages within 200 feet of an existing public school or church, and any establishment that features or has live entertainment, i.e., male or female dancing, adult movie theaters and/or adult bookstores. However, in any case, this subsection (1)h shall not be construed to prevent the sale of beer, wine, liquor or other intoxicating beverages for off-premises consumption, from minute markets, 7-11 stores and/or grocery stores."

Allow beer at Tucker Duke's, churches shouldn't get special recognition under the law!

This petition, if it passes, will allow the city of Valparaiso to grow into a thriving city. It seems to have been at a standstill and the growth of new restaurants and other establishments will bring in new business and people.

I LOVE Tucker Dukes Burgers and would love to be able to enjoy a craft beer with my food! Over turn this STUPID city ordinance and get with the times! It is a shame that you have such an impact on a great business that brings good attention to the local area!
