At present there is no law compelling private security companies to pay annual leave or sick leave. In 1994 there were provisions for such but was removed in 1995.

Updates

March 16, 2022

The private security industry continues to treat workers like disposable assets by denying basic leave. I am currently reaching out to labor officials to expose this shameful loophole that has existed since 1995. They think they can ignore us but we are not going anywhere.

March 16, 2022

The private security industry continues to treat us like machines while denying basic human rights like sick leave. This surge in support proves that we are fed up with these companies exploiting our labor without consequence.

To be clear, the Minimum Wages Act guarantees that no worker shall enjoy terms and conditions of employment that are less favourable than those provided for in the Act. However, the insufficiency of the terms and conditions for security officers as compared to our counterparts prescribed under the Minimum Wages Order needs to be corrected.

Its an injustice that this was allowed to happen in 1995 and to date still hasn't been corrected. Totally immoral and evil .

The business sector & government need to realise and understand how vital and at the same time ,how dangerous a security job is. It's the same as all other national agencies ( police, army, air & marine etc) therefore the same wages, benefits & respect should be given to Estate Constables!!

Security officers are employed workers an as such should be entitled to all such entitlements as deemed in the laws of Trinidad and Tobago . Going against that should be looked as a breach of the laws of the country

Security Officers are entitled to the same rights as everyone else, they say we are essential workers but with nonessential benefits shame on you

It's unfair to the security officer to work so hard , put their life on the line to secure the company’s assets, and can't benefit from incentives, where management burst their pockets with nonsensical incentives..
