We, the undersigned people, believe the decision to remove Alina Offerman from the Kalamazoo College Swim and Dive team was unjust. We petition to Jay Daniels and the Athletic Department of Kalamazoo College to allow Alina back on the swim team. This removal goes against what this team has been and is trying to improve upon: communication and inclusivity. The justification for the removal was vague and did not contain any concrete examples for why the removal was decided, except for a remark made by the removed person about their sexuality. As well, little was done to facilitate conversations between involved athletes and coaches before the removal was decided. Because of this, all athletes, though especially the removed athlete, were blindsided by the intensity of the punishment and are still left confused about the justification for the removal. For these reasons, we believe that Alina was unfairly removed and deserves to be back on the team.

I support this petition because it appears that there was no attempt at conflict resolution between parties involved before just removing Alina. Someone should be able to address the person who accused them. The mediator should have to gain insight into both sides of the conflict before any action is taken.
This whole thing seems so rushed and unfair. Alina is a great swimmer and everyone deserves a real explanation before getting kicked off the team like this.

TOTAL BULLSHIT. Where is the actual proof? You cant just kick someone off the team because of a comment like that. Do better kzoo.
