Adigrat University
Regional State of Tigray, Ethiopia
We, concerned Ethiopians from every corner of Tigray and Ethiopia (Not just from Adigrat/Agame surroundings), are signing this petition to pledge your esteemed office to consider the amendment of the official name of one of the 33 universities administered by your minister office, i.e. "Adigrat University", to "Agame University".
We hereby presented some of our justifications for making this call.
1) Agame is more relevant and inclusive than Adigrat. Adigrat is only a town of small population; Agame includes a vast land and people characterized by hard working entrepreneurs and a wonderful culture.
2) The name Adigrat will be used as long as the town remains there, but the word Agame has been replaced by Eastern zone and no more in use. Hence, we want to preserve this proud cultural heritage by renaming the university as other Ethiopian universities did.
3) Some people do not even know Agame was a name of one of the Awrajas in the old Tigray province. For some people, Agame represents the whole of Tigray.
4) Some people attach the word Agame with a wrong connotation with or without knowing. Meanwhile, we want the message clearly be delivered to those who misuse or have misguided conceptions about Agame. One way of doing so is, we thought, by proudly using the name even in trade marking big institutions such as a university.
We greatly aspire that your esteemed office will hear our voice and take the necessary action to make "Agame University" an official name.
We thank you in advance !!!
Agame is how we describe our selves, with great culture and traditions. Generous, open mined, organized to self help in economic and social by tradition such as Equib, Sewasembet, Mesmeya, and religious institutions organized by Mehebia are the fabrics of Agame which should nurture and integrated to the 21 century.
