We, the undersigned students and alumni of the University of Zimbabwe, along with concerned members of the public, strongly condemn the recent statement made by the Association of University Teachers (AUT) accusing the University of Zimbabwe of conferring “fake degrees” to the graduating class of 2025.
This baseless accusation directly undermines years of academic dedication, financial sacrifice, and professional preparation by thousands of students. It tarnishes the reputation of our university and threatens the value of our qualifications in the job market both locally and internationally.
We note that:
• The AUT’s conflict with the University Administration is over salary increments, not the academic integrity of our degrees.
• The AUT lecturers themselves taught, supervised, and assessed the modules we completed.
• These remarks are therefore contradictory, misleading, and harmful to innocent graduates.
We demand:
1. An immediate public retraction and apology from the AUT.
2. A formal statement from the University of Zimbabwe Administration defending the legitimacy of its qualifications.
3. A public verification from the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) affirming that all degrees awarded meet national and international standards.
We will not allow our academic futures to be used as bargaining chips in a dispute between the AUT and the University Administration. We stand united in defending the dignity and credibility of our hard-earned qualifications.

We are innocent graduates and we worked hard all these years .. all 4 years only for now to hear rumours that our degrees are fake yet they were the ones who taught us all these years and even supervised us for attachment and even dissertation... Are they saying they were unqualified and the university allowed them to teach us and even issue out results knowing they were fake ? How can a university like the University of Zimbabwe commit such a risk ? Is the emhare platform safe and can be accesses by an unqualified person ?
We want to graduate,we indeed learnt and wrote our exams. Maybe speak for those who told you that they did not learn. We invested our time, efforts, money and emotions into securing our degrees only for you to deny us the right to legit jobs. Please we want to graduate. Set us free.
Most of the part finals where done with their modules by the time they strike, and most of our dissertation chapters where supervised
At first they were justified as their issue was on low salaries but now they are going too far Vakuita senge people can't read or learn on their own n pass without attending lectures ✋ 2 months of strike soiling 4years
We've spent four years struggling through law school for it to all be undermined by a single semester and one module and that is unfair and unjust and we deserve justice.
We worked for these degrees, musatijairirire mhani!!!!
