These past semesters, we have built up a community within our LCs that fosters learning through trust, cooperation, and shared experience. Taking away our choice of who we are in an LC with will be counterproductive to the majority's quality of education. Additionally, some students live and carpool together, so this change would cause undue financial burden. Please reconsider this decision for the benefit of the students.

I joined my specific LC because we have a group of people that live within walking distance of each other so we can easily carpool to and from our clinicals together, on time, safely while alleviating financial burdens. I am financially unable to have a car so not being able to participate in this carpool would be difficult and a burden if I would not be able to ride with them. If people can't advocate for themselves to get out of a group they feel pressured to be in, then how will they advocate for their patients?

That awkward moment when you're forced to advocate for patient's autonomy but the program strips you of yours...

It is not right to change the program halfway through on us, and to give no warning less than a week before registration. Having a LC you stick with throughout the program is a huge plus! We should have the option to switch or stay with our current community...like we already did. If some students want to be randomized, then let them, but everyone should not be forced to change, especially when the entire group wishes to stay together.

The benefits of LCs are profound and well-supported in the literature. Notable benefits include: - boosting academic success & improved GPA: - increased graduation rate/decreased attrition; - improved relationships & connection with faculty; - increased satisfaction with learning experiences; - creates lasting friendships and peer-to-peer support. To the ASU Nursing Program- Please reconsider making such a drastic change which will, undoubtedly, impact nursing student success! Let’s demonstrate for our future nurses what real professional RN learning communities are all about - teamwork! Let’s foster this for our future RNs.

Although meeting new people can sometimes be nice, when being in such a competitive, challenging and unpredictable environment; being around familiar faces and collaborating with those who you have been with before is the one thing we depend on for not only school work collaboration but mental and emotional support to get through such a tough curriculum.

The fact this change has been enacted and faculty are moving forward with it despite the clear disapproval of the nursing students - the people it actually affects - is disheartening. I would hope that the ASU nursing faculty would take our voices and concerns into consideration before forcing us into something. Several students have responded directly to faculty and have not had any reply. Ignoring our voices and steamrolling ahead is unprofessional and should not be the way this is handled.

Nursing school is demanding. Nursing school is expensive. Nursing school is incredibly difficult. Attempting to have some semblance of a life outside of nursing school is challenging. Students are enrolled in clubs, after-school/extracurricular activities, live far from campus, some work full-time, some part-time, some students have families of their own that come with responsibilities and obligations. I, myself, work full-time on top of being a full-time student in order to provide for my wife and 1-year-old son. Before this proposed change, I was able to build my schedule in a way that permitted me to work and spend time with my family while still being able to pursue my education. This change in policy takes that from me. There is a good chance that I will be randomly assigned a schedule that is not conducive to working outside of school. I cannot take that chance. I NEED to be able to work. I have a family of my own that relies on me. This change in policy will create more issues and challenges for students than it will solve. I understand that the intentions are pure, but I fear that this will create a much larger problem than it is solving.
