Update: Utopiafest has been moved to a new location! Thank you all for your help!

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We want to make you aware of a large planned music festival event called, Utopiafest 2018 Down in the Oaks. Website is Utopiafest.com. This 5 day music festival is to take place between Shady Grove Road (CR 200) and RM 963 on 105.56 acres.

This is the opening weekend of Deer and Turkey Hunting season.

This is a rural agricultural residential community. The main reason residents live here is to enjoy a safe, secure, and peaceful life. Our community is not located in "the wilderness" as stated in The Austin Chronicle, April 2018 article, and we do not welcome this event in our backyards.

In the past, this event capped 2,000 attendees on a 1,000 acre ranch near Utopia, Texas. Now, their website says there may be as many as 6,000 attendees, which does not include performers and vendors.

Plans include:

Two sound stages Overnight Tent and RV camping BYOB/Alcohol for purchase

General Store Shuttle Buses Personal Vehicle Parking Food Vendors

Generators

What effect will potentially 6,000 people for several days have on a 105.56 acre parcel of land? There are many great locations for this event, but this is not one of them.

This Event:

  • Did not submitted a music festival permit application until August 28,2018.
  • Will provide alcohol for sale and attendees can bring their own alcohol.
  • Plans to lock in mass crowds each night.
  • Has many disclosures for event liability.
  • Has a Wildlife Exemption on property hosting event.
  • Has not informed any Shady Grove Road Corridor residents.

Potential Damages from Festival to include:

  • Road and/or property damage
  • Trash- huge problem
  • Danger from fires and flooding
  • Environmental concern
  • Loss of Security

Downintheoaks.com under "Our Mission" discusses " transforming a historic 100 plus acre ranch into an outdoor music city.

Your response is very important. Together we can make a stand to let Burnet County leaders know how we as a large community group feel this impacts our lives, health, homes, and security.

I live about a mile from where this is supposed to be. The roads aren’t made for traffic, and the country is supposed to stay country. That’s the reason my family moved it there 13 years ago in the first place. This is unfair and rude to the people around this fest.

Over many years I've seen a sleepy little road (Shady Grove) turn into a (Killer Road). Yes! A killer of Humans, Livestock, and Wildlife. The increase in traffic is alarming. Imagine, daily traffic, plus opening Deer-Turkey weekend with untold number of Hunters, then add over 6,000 music festival goers. NO WAY...…...

Several land owners in the area have leased out for deer season. This type of event will caused major problems for hunters. Co Rd 200 has several younger families with small children living close to the road. Safety is a major concern. The roadway is already heavily travelled at higher than the posted speed. Please do not allow these people to destroy the quiet enjoyment of our own properties.

I live in Joppa-approx. 10 miles from this site and do not wish to hear this commotion. That's why we moved here 24 years ago- if this is allowed to happen once, it will happen again and again.

I do not believe either the festival goers or Burnet citizens can be assured of safety.

Well hopefully after the last hearing on the matter on the 25th. Do we all think, the commissioners, sheriff and the Judge see the potential and numerous safety concerns?
