Plans to demolish historic Dalton Grange have sparked outrage.
The handsome, Gothic building situated on Bradley Mills Road, Rawthorpe and built in 1870 was used until recently as a social club by former employees of ICI, Zeneca and Syngenta. Now used as wedding and function venue.
Plans submitted to Kirklees Council suggest the demolition, not withstanding a bat survey, might be carried out as soon as mid July Although this could never be the case as they have bookings to honour upto the end of October.
But objector Peter Nixon said: “The building was a well-served wedding venue until recently and so holds a sentimental value to many residents of Huddersfield, not to mention the important historic worth of the building."
We are going to try and get the building spot listed, and press the council for a building preservation order, but this would probably need extensive local support.
We need all the local support we can get from the people of Huddersfield now before its too late. Once its gone its gone. Please sign this petition in order to help preventthis dreadful proposition.

Email your local councillor today to demand they consider our request for spot listing. Send a text to three people in Huddersfield and ask them to add their names to this petition before the demolition window opens.

Why destroy a piece of history just because it does not sit comfortably on a corporate balance sheet. This is a living piece of of our local history. Over recent decades Syngenta (aka ICI) have caused immense damage to the area off Leeds road, why should they be permitted to continue to scar our landscape.
A very beautiful building, with far more life in it yet! These impressive buildings are all too far and between now, and becoming less. The history behind it should warrant respect and restoration, not demolition!
It is almost beyond belief that a thriving business in a historic building is at risk of demolition because of the short-term financial gains promised to a private interest. We are surely better than this.
This is a beautiful building. My husband and I got married there a few years ago. When all said an done this is also someone's livelihood. Mike and Kim are lovely people who put others before themselves every time. PLEASE PLEASE DON'T DEMOLISH THIS STUNNING BUILDING.
I used to work here. This is my family's home as well as the place holding memories and sentiment for hundreds of weddings and functions. There is no need for the beautiful place to be demolished. It's rare we still have beautiful places like these!

Very disappointing that a company does not exhibit corporate responsibility by finding a way to keep an important heritage building. Demolition is an easy, and lazy solution.
