GRIMETHORPE HALL

Grade II* listed building built circa 1670.
Neglected, Derelict, and Deteriorating for Decades

Grimethorpe Hall is a Grade II* listed building, built circa 1670. Which after many years of neglect and material theft requires extensive repairs and renovation.

Grimethorpe Hall is the last of Grimethorpe's historic buildings. The other notable buildings that have disappeared are Lodge Farm, Ferrymoor Farm and Foldhead Farm. These were allowed to be demolished by the relevant authorities.

So as a community we must all make a determined effort to save the building for the community and preserve it for our future generations.

Seeing the count climb toward five hundred proves the community refuses to watch another piece of our local history crumble into dust. We need to maintain this momentum until the authorities finally take meaningful action to secure the hall. Please send this link out into your networks right now so we can hit that next milestone quickly.

I have spent my afternoons walking the perimeter of the hall and documenting the new gaps in the fencing where more damage has occurred. It is heartbreaking to see our history crumbling while the people in power remain silent about the neglect. I am currently compiling all your stories into a report to hand over directly to the council members.

Scandal to have let it get this far deteriorated, The Council should have intervened many years ago and made the so called owners responsible with a plan to restore...Can I say Greed and speculation.

I grew up in Grimethorpe, and remember the Hall well, also Fold Head Farm and Lodge Farm. I hope there will be a way found to preserve the Hall.

Grimethorpe Hall is a major Historic building and should undergo renovations. If the building would have been situated West of Barnsley in Cawthorne it wouldnt have been allowed to get into such a state of disrepair

Of National importance this building is an important part of South Yorkshire's cultural Heritage, neglected for far too long. It offers the potential to help in Grimethorpe's regeneration.

This is our Heritage we have to keep it going. Our children need to see what England stood for, power and strength. It is all disappearing too quickly. We have to hang to it otherwise there will be no English history left to show our future generations.

From memory l think the Thompson family from Thompsons farm were probably the last family to live in the hall. My sister Jean worked at the Red City Cooperative and used to visit the hall regularly when they lived there.
