This website is to raise awareness of the current plan that the City of Neligh has to annex businesses, residences and properties around the edges of town.
The only benefit to the City of Neligh is the additional revenue they will gain from property taxes and the additional 1% sales tax from Bomgaars that will go to the City of Neligh.
The city representatives are saying that the surrounding businesses and residents are “piggy backing” on Neligh’s 100-plus businesses and the residents who do pay for the services. We are using their streets to drive on that we are not paying for.
This is an insult to every person who comes to Neligh to do business, The three implement dealerships draw customers from a large area Page,Verdigre, NIobrara, Creighton, Tilden, Brunswick, Meadow Grove, Newman Grove, Petersburg, Elgin, Bartlett to name a few. These customers have choices to take their business elsewhere. The City businesses need these people to survive.
There are 6398 people residing in Antelope County. The City of Neligh has 1599 residents. The businesses inside the city limits would not have a viable customer base if it were not for the surrounding areas. The attitude that non-residents are not welcome is insulting.
The Chamber of Commerce wants to attract customers and businesses but the negative environment this is creating will result in taking their business elsewhere.
We need your help to show up at the meeting on Tuesday night @ 7:00. We have to stop this before they go on to annex areas 2,3,4 and maybe more.
The City of Neligh’s planning commission members, Don Zegers, Benny Taylor, Walt Storey, Lance Sanne and Dane Nielsen.
City of Neligh council members are Ted Hughes, Dale Wilkinson, Stephanie Wanek and Leonard Miller.

Reaching this point has been a long grind and honestly it is draining to keep fighting against such short-sighted decisions. Seeing this level of support reminds me why I started this because we deserve to be heard instead of exploited.

We as Ag buinesses can not be in city limits to grow. We need to promote filling lots in city limits that are not being utilized. We as Ag buinesses bring in people from out side of Neligh to support All Neligh businesses everyday.

total cash grab. we already shop in town enough and this is just gonna push us to take our business to Norfolk instead.
