Hartz is requesting that the Village of New Lenox re-zone the leftover 19 lots down Peregrine Dr. – Cardinal, etc to a lower minimum dwelling size. They want the village to grant a variance just for these lots to have the minimum square footage dropped. The current sq ft requirements are 1800 for a ranch and 2000 for a two story. Hartz is trying to get away with building homes smaller than the city’s required minimum. This will decrease our home values even more than they've already dropped from the bad economy. Rules are rules and these size requirements were set for a reason - to set a standard of building, a standard of living, and to maintain property values within the Village of New Lenox. As residents and tax payers of New Lenox, we need to take control over our home's value. Hartz just wants to get out of the Laraway Ridge Subdivision the fast and easy way and increase their bottom line without any consideration to the homeowners. Would you have signed your name on the contract if you knew this would happen? Will this cause a bad chain reaction? The other builders in the area are sure to follow suit. The Village of New Lenox will surely lose its integrity if this gets passed.

The increase in public interest has prompted the local planning department to schedule a formal briefing with me. I am currently drafting a letter to the board that outlines our specific objections regarding the minimum square footage requirements. Please prepare to present these points at the village hall.

Enough with the rezoning already. I bought my house based on the standards that were in place. If they lower the square footage now it just hurts everyone who already lives here.
NOT COOL. why should they get special treatment just to build cheaper houses? protect our equity.
They promised a certain standard when we bought. Dont change the deal now just because they want more profit.
Hartz is just looking for a quick buck while the rest of us deal with our property values tanking. Keep the minimums where they are.
If they build smaller homes now the whole neighborhood takes a hit. stop this now.
