I’m not usually one to say much but this “master plan” that council has come up with can have massive ramifications on not only on my family’s business but so many other small local businesses that are already doing it tough in this time.
Their plan is to PERMANENTLY close Russell street in front of the courthouse as well as adding cycleways and PARALLEL parking down William street - don’t we struggle with not enough parking already? This means an approximate 50% loss of parking
Our business has not even been contacted by council in relation to this even though it will hurt our business significantly!
So I’m using social media in the hopes to get more people to sign a petition to put a stop to this
First of all you need to answer the following Y/N questions
QUESTION 1 - have you heard about the Bathurst Town Centre Master Plan as per the attached image
QUESTION 2 - Do you support closing Russell Street permanently outside the courthouse as per proposed plan. LOSE APPROX 40 PARKING SPOTS
QUESTION 3 - Do you support the proposed plan of adding cycle ways and parallel parking for beautification in William Street. APPROX 50% LOSS OF PARKING

We need MORE car parking in the CBD. Not less. Orange NSW has shown that parallel parking in main streets is unsafe and impractical.
Small business has been hurt extensively from Covid-19. Less car parks would only create further damage. I don’t see the need to change from 45 degree to parallel parking. ‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it’!
1. No 2. No 3. No 4. No Bathurst already has a shortage of parking. This is going to make things difficult, especially for our elderly, not being able to get a car park close to where they need to go. Local businesses were not told about this. Very sneaky
As a business owner on William Street, it is appauling that Bathurst Regional Council didnt consult with us or the other businesses along this strip, that this decision would affect the most. Sneaky!!
Cutting carparking spaces is ludicrous and how is the courthouse meant to be accessed but Corrections and Police vans with inmates for court appearances!
Good on you Lily for raising awareness, I had not heard of this "Master Plan" and I don't support it either.
Hopefully with this petition the proposed plans will not happen and William street will be left as it is.

This plan will only make access to businesses in this area more difficult. Dedicated cycleways in the middle of town only benefits a disproportionately small amount of people relative to the space taken by the cycleway (even less beneficial when cyclists are entitled to use the same lanes as other traffic anyway).
