African American's contributions to society have been overlooked for decades. Many do not know of all the innovations that Black Americans have done for this country. The misinformed masses could learn, not only of the extraordinary accomplishments of Black Americans but their history too. African American History is a class that is so desperately needed in our school. With the ever growing racial climate and negative connotations toward black people, African American History can help inform ignorant Americans/students that black people are more than just a stereotype. Not only would students learn of the vast rich cultures that reside in Africa, students would also learn of the civil injustice that black people face all the way from Slavery to Modern Society. Our school has a student body of a multitude of different cultures, ethnic backgrounds and origins that would all benefit from the teachings of black history. Help us make African American History a class at Slidell High! Black History is American History.
