Albemarle County has a capital improvement project (CIP) to rehabilitate 4 failing tennis courts to include a combination of tennis courts and pickleball courts.

As we know and understand that

(1) Darden Towe Memorial Park is jointly funded by the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County; and

(2) that the mission of the Parks and Recreation Departments for each of these entities includes provision of recreation facilities for the enjoyment of their respective citizens,

we, the undersigned, would like to demonstrate our support of the CIP to include pickleball courts at Darden Towe to address current and future facility needs for the growing pickleball community in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. We appreciate that the City and the County recognize that pickleball not only has arrived, but is here to stay and will continue to attract increasing numbers of players, ranging from youth to senior citizens.

Dedicated pickleball courts are a fantastic investment in the community, offering facilities for a rapidly growing sport that embraces intergenerational play, keeps our seniors active, and allows for cost-effective use of space. All of this together makes great sense for funding the project. Thank you!

I see empty tennis courts all the time. As our population ages (I'm 58) Pickleball mets a health need like no other sport. Please provide accessible and public courts for Pickleball. I can now "compete" again after years of failing health.

It seems rather absurd that a public facility would not include both tennis and pickleball. The pickleball groups that I have played with have all been fun, considerate and friendly. I can see no reason why both tennis and pickleball could not cohabitate at the facility.

I play Pickleball several times each week and and am looking for other facilities providing an opportunity for play. The Darden Towe Memorial Park project could provide the first dedicated outdoor Pickleball courts in the Charlottesville area.

I don't think it is unreasonable to ask for one tennis court out of the 74 public tennis courts in this area to make 4 dedicated Pickleball courts. Currently there are 0 dedicated Pickleball courts. I believe that Pickleball and tennis communities can work together to provide these two great recreational activities in our area.

Pickleball is the new game for seniors in the nation. Please support the seniors of our community. Many seniors cannot continue the physically strenuous game of tennis. However, there is no reason why the courts can't be used for both Pickleball and Tennis.

I live near Darden Towe Park, and would love to have pickle all courts there.

Please provide courts at Darden Towe for the purpose of pickle ball. It is a sport that players of all ages can enjoy, even when they are no longer able to play tennis, racquetball, squash, etc.
