The administration at Serrano High is still ignoring us and hoping we will just go away. Their silence is a pathetic attempt to hide their sexist policies but we are not backing down.

The administration thought they could bury this issue in the handbook and hope we would just stay quiet. Our momentum shows they were dead wrong and now they have no choice but to face the reality of their discriminatory policies.

I am 3 years out of high school but the dress code has always been a problem. Stop sexualizing the bodies of 14-17 year old girls. They are minors. If you are worried boys or men will be distracted then why don’t we teach them to not be perverts and prey on young girls. Stop policing women’s bodies.

Girls should be able to wear what they want. I see multiple guys walk around campus without a shirt and that can distract girls but nobody says anything to them and it’s just not right. If we distract guys or others then learn some self control because I am sick and tired of being told what I can and cannot wear.

I don’t go to Serrano but some of my good friends do and I want to help cause my school dress code is abolished. Dress codes teach women, from a young age, that their bodies are to be hidden. To show skin is to be “skimpy.” They teach that young girls' bodies are provocative . By banning cleavage and thighs, dress codes teach girls that their bodies are objects and they are a distraction. This can make girls feel bad about their bodies and want to hide them forever. Another reason is just because there’s literally no logic to the dress code :)
