SET A SAFE TIME AND PLACE for Special Town Meeting
Truro voters have been informed that Special Town Meeting has been moved to Thursday, Nov 2, at 5:30 PM, a weekday evening that will ensure the lowest possible turnout by seniors and others who fear it is unsafe to attend at night and leave in the dark, parents of young families, and many working people. According to Town Moderator Paul Wisotzky, this date MAY change again because of challenges to voters, ongoing. The truth is: there are only two legal reasons for continuing a Town Meeting in the Commonwealth and this isn’t one of them.
The uncertainty created by Town administrators is confusing, destabilizing, and can be construed as yet another means by which the Town’s administration is suppressing voter turnout by repeatedly disrupting voter turnout. One way to reassure voters is to set a specific and unchangeable date for Special Town Meeting that the greatest number of voters can plan for with confidence and safely attend.
By signing this petition, we appeal to Moderator Wisotzky, whom we believe to be a fair and sincere Town official, to set a date certain for Special Town Meeting, ideally SATURDAY NOV 4 at 10 AM, during daylight hours in a safe place so ALL voters have the best opportunity to participate.
All persons on the voter rolls have a right to vote, according to Massachusetts Law. Please show respect for our right to vote, our time, and the safety of all who will attend – and encourage wider participation by Truro’s voters - by moving the meeting to Saturday, November 4, at 10 AM. Otherwise, let’s cancel Special Town Meeting and move all items to April Town Meeting.

My preference is April. Unknown dates for voting is unnecessarily confusing. People make travel plans they can’t change. The more who vote the more accurate and fair the vote is. It’s actually sunset @ 5:33 that night.
The select board is trying to make this as difficult as possible and they are trying to suppress the votes of those who might not approve of these ridiculous projects. This is the kind of behavior you might expect in a Banana Republic but not a New England village.
The original meeting was to be on a Saturday, in the morning. The warrant for this meeting is long and demanding. Attempting to do this in an evening and when families should be home having dinner is ill-advised.
I am one of a number of Truro residents who are members of the Outer Cape Chorale. Rehearsal is Thursdays and we are asked to not miss if at all possible. Saturday is a much better day for town meeting, please.
I think it best to have the TM on Saturday.Having it at night is not respectful of the elderly .Saturday gives the elderly a safe option.
I agree. Move the meeting to a safer and more convenient time. The appearance of voter suppression unfortunate.
Please change the Nov. 2 town meeting to the April 2024 town meeting.

Please move to next spring. I planned for months to be at the meeting that was postponed 10 days ago. I cannot make November 2 or 4 (son getting married). I deserve the chance to vote.
