Mr. Blake Sercye

Chairman

Chicago of Chicago Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA)

121 N. LaSalle St.

Chicago, IL 60601

  • Regarding the support of a proposed zoning application for a special use permit at 5553-5557 W. Irving Park Rd.

Dear Chairman Sercye and ZBA Committee Members,

I write to you to express my support for the proposed zoning change at 5553-5557 W. Irving Pk. Rd. I live near the site, and urge the approval of the application for a special use permit to establish a one-lane drive-through to serve a proposed quick service restaurant (OSR).

I believe the development of this parcel will provide a much needed boost to the economic life of the West Portage Park Community.

Since economic development is one of the cornerstones for building thriving communities, it would be beneficial to seek a wide variety of businesses, both independents and larger retailers. Approval of this special use permit will allow the community to welcome an established retailer (i.e a Starbucks). Accomplishing this will provide this area with a meaningful and attractive anchor to attract other interested businesses to the West Portage Park Community.

In the interest of safety, I also support the installation of Right Turn Only signage at all access points as stated by the developer Sumac Development.

I urge the approval of this application.

The feedback from local neighbors regarding the proposed development has been constructive and insightful. I am currently organizing these comments into a formal presentation for the Zoning Board of Appeals to ensure our collective perspective is clearly represented. Thank you for your continued focus on the economic vitality of West Portage Park.

We need more businesses like this in portage park. Current lot is just sitting there doing nothing. Get it done!
