PETITION: Speed Bumps on Decatur Street (between Malcolm X & Patchen Ave.)
The 368A - 429A Decatur St Block Association is gathering signatures in support of having speed bumps installed on Decatur Street between Malcolm X and Patchen Ave.
Many of us see and hear cars speeding through our block throughout the day, evening, and night-time hours. In some cases, the speeding has caused incidents that resulted in property damage and, tragically, severely hurt children.
We all have a desire to live on a safe and peaceful environment. The installation of speed bumps on our block will help deter cars from speeding and help promote more safety and less chaos.
Currently there are 2 ACTIVE cases/requests for speed bumps on our block, both are in the STUDY phase. The purpose of this petition is to fortify the request with support from all 368A - 429A Block Association members and neighboring blocks. Our goal is to collect 200+ signatures.
Upon reaching a critical mass of signatures, the signed petition will then be submitted to our local City Council Member, Robert E. Cornegy, and the NYC Department of Transportation with a request to expedite the 2 pending studies and move to implementation.
We are asking you to take 2 actions:
1. Add your name to your support for installing SPEED BUMPS ON DECATUR ST.
2. Please share with others you believe will support this effort.
Thank you,
368A - 429 Decatur Street Block Association

We hit our stride this week and the momentum is now impossible for the city to ignore. Take a moment to text three neighbors today to keep this energy moving toward our goal. It is time to demand that Council Member Cornegy prioritizes these pending studies.

Yes, please. So many kids around here! What is the downside to making this street a little safer for everyone.
I agree with others that there is really no down side to having speed bumps. This block is home to dozens of children, one of them my own. At the age of two and a half my son witnessed another child being hit by a car that was speeding. He still talks about that event and every time he does I’m filled with sadness and anxiety. Speed bumps would be one simple way to make life here a little more secure.
Speed bumps are critical in this residential neighborhood where there are so many kids and elderly who are often facing drivers who are driving too fast!
My children attend daycare on this block and speed bumps would make this a far safer place for them to walk outside.
The safety of our residents and guests is at stake. I am in full support of a speed bump on Decatur St. between and Ralph and Patchen.
I think we need a lot more speed bumps

We have two young children on this block who have almost got hit by speeding vehicles. As a mother, I strongly request a speed bump on our block. Thanks! Marjan Tehrani-Noble
