Hello neighbors- For those who live on or near Walker Ave between Banbury and The Alameda/ Sherwood, you are very familiar with the cars that regularly drive far above the 25 mph speed limit, easily going 60 to 70 mph. This is incredibly dangerous for the residents of Walker Ave as well as the many pedestrians who walk there and other drivers who are respecting the law. Too many times I have been passed across the double lines after signaling to turn into my driveway. And on a daily basis- many times a day- there are near crashes at the intersection of Walker and Chinquapin because of speeding cars.

The good news is that after many attempts, we finally have a real opportunity to get a speed bump. You may have noticed the major sewer line replacement project the city is conducting along the Chinquapin stream. The last leg is to cut across Walker Ave to connect the city sewer line with the county sewer line. That means that they will dig up the road (it is already closed as of July 7th) and have to repair and repave it. So.... this is the time to demand they put in a speed bump!! Please sign the petition and add your address in the comment box ASAP and share with your neighbors, especially those on and near Walker Ave. I will send this petition to the Director of Transportation for Baltimore City.

Thanks for your help! And please share this with your neighbors-- the more signatures we get, the better!

Updates

July 8, 2020

The road crews are already active on Walker Avenue and the window to get this speed bump installed while the pavement is open is narrowing fast. I am currently coordinating with the local project managers to ensure our request reaches the right desk before the final repaving begins.

Seeing this momentum grow has given me such hope that our street will finally be safe for my family and neighbors. I am spending my evening organizing these names to ensure the city understands that we are united in demanding this change while the road is still torn up.

I live on Walker Avenue and often see people driving over 60 miles an hour. I fear for my two young children and already lost one cat to speeding drivers.

Traffic studies show that the average speed cars travel on Walker Ave is far above the 25 mph limit. That a major fast food business plans to build (the construction has already been approved by the County) on Walker Ave will dramatically increase the traffic and accidents due to speeding. Speed humps/bumps may be the only way to curb the traffic and speeding.

This is a hilly, winding street without any sidewalks in the County section. The Banbury intersection is particularly dangerous.

Allison- do you live on Walker Ave? My car side mirror was also knocked off on 3 separate occasions by speeding cars and our dog was hit in front of our house a few months ago (she survived!). Enough is enough.

In one year my side mirror was hit five times, my car was totaled From someone crashing into it at 1am parked in front of home, one dog was killed, another hit

They should also consider putting up the white poles that are used as barriers in bike lanes- put them in the middle of the double yellow lines as much as possible on Walker Ave to prevent people from dangerously passing on that street. Double yellow lines means no passing- please start enforcing it before someone gets killed in a head on collision.

Fingers crossed that the residents on Walker can get this much needed speed hump!
