Re: Petition to Action from Concerned Citizens Regarding the Slip on Roselane Drive in Mink Shoals, WV

Commissioner Smith:
The undersigned either live near or use Roselane Drive on a regular basis. By signing this petition, we are requesting that the slip on the south end of Roselane Drive be repaired immediately by the Division of Highways. The slip area is not safe and anyone traveling in this area is in danger.
• If the slip collapses further while a vehicle is crossing, it may result in the vehicle tumbling down onto Rt. 119, a public highway which is used daily by the community, posing a danger not only to those traveling Roselane but also to every vehicle that passes through the area on Rt. 119. School buses and parents transporting children to Shoals Elementary School pass this area daily. In addition, winter is coming, and inclement weather and the freeze/thaw cycle increase the odds of a vehicle going over the hill.
• The entire community is suffering and in danger if there is a fire emergency. The Pinch Volunteer Fire Department has stated that the slip area is unsuitable for large fire trucks. Access in the case of a fire emergency would be via the extremely steep and narrow north end of Roselane Drive which will add three minutes to precious response times. Other risks adding even more to the response time include sliding off the one lane of pavement and becoming stuck and having to back up if another vehicle is encountered. In snow and ice conditions the north end of the street is totally impassable. The 160 tax paying citizens who live in the Roselane area and depend on the Pinch VFD are in extreme danger if they cannot be reached in a timely manner or AT ALL due to a fire emergency. We will appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Concerned citizens of the Roselane Drive area.
