The board finally approved the new French Immersion program for our community. My kids will finally have the chance to learn in French right here at home because you refused to accept the status quo. I am keeping a close eye on the implementation process to ensure they follow through …

We are a group of parents trying to bring French Immersion to Huron County. Currently, there is no option for non-Catholic students in the entire County. Avon Maitland currently has 3 French Immersion Schools ALL located in Stratford. Other rural boards, such as Bluewater Board have 13 French Immersion Schools.

Please sign our petition if you think everyone should have the opportunity to learn French. (Anyone in Huron County is welcome to sign, you do not have to have school aged children).

I have spent my mornings calling the school board office to press them on why our children are being left behind. The silence from their side is frustrating but finding so many of you who feel the same gives me the energy to keep pushing.

Seeing this kind of momentum feels like a weight lifting off my shoulders because it proves I am not the only one fighting for our children to have these options. Watching our community unite behind this goal gives me real hope that we can finally secure a future where local families no longer have to drive out of the county for a French education.

Rural children deserve the same opportunities as all other children in Canada, including my son. I also grew up in a small town and did not have access to French Immersion. I greatly wish that I were bilingual, it is a valuable skill in Canada and around the world.

Lots of research shows that French Immersion is very beneficial for students and I would love to register my kids in french immersion within my county. Right now they are attending a school in Grey-Bruce county because french immersion is not an option in Huron county.

My daughter took French Immersion in Lambton County. When we moved to South Huron, it was not available. In High school, she changed to a Catholic school in Clinton, to continue on. My grandchildren have not had this opportunity. I want it to be here. I speak no French.

I believe my children should be entitled to have an equal opportunity to pursue a French Immersion education in Huron County - regardless of our family's religious beliefs. My children should not be denied the opportunity because we chose to live in Huron County. I ask the Avon-Maitland School Board to create a French Immersion program at Goderich Public School.

why is it that we have to have our kids forced into a catholic belief system just so they can learn one of our NATIONAL languages? Don't take away our rights to freedom of choice, and freedom of religious beliefs yet they make us put our kids in a catholic school. It is our rights as canadians to be able to choose to learn our 2nd national language

We bought a house this year and had to cross Huron county off of our list because of the lack of French immersion. If it had been available we would likely be living there now.

A lack of french immersion is forcing a disadvantage on the students.

All students should have equal opportunities within the education system in Ontario and in Canada.
