To Bragg Creek Residents:
This Petition has been developed to register concerns with the Rocky View County (“RVC”) - Tetra Tech EBA Ltd. process ($140,000 funded by Alberta Transportation) that is currently underway to consider additional emergency egress options to serve the West Bragg Creek area. Many residents believe the current RVC-Tetra Tech process has significant shortcomings which will lead to an unsuccessful outcome and further delay implementing potential solutions. There is a lack of common sense stewardship in the current process.
Resident Concerns with the Current RVC Process:
- Current Routes Do Not Serve the Community Well
- Local Knowledge for Routes Ignored
- Not Considering the Fort McMurray & Slave Lake Lessons
- Fails the Tests of Sustainability, Social and Environmental Responsibility
- Restricted Consultation Process
- Perils Not Properly Defined
- Wrong Priorities and Rankings for Route Selection
- Use of Expensive and Long Lead Time New Bridges
- Exclusion of Nearby Alberta Wildfire Firefighting Resources
- Stranded Capital with “Emergency Only” Infrastructure
- Elimination of Favorable K-Country Options
- No Plan to Improve Survivability of the Balsam Avenue Bridge
- No Associated Communication Plan
- RVC Process Fits the Budget and Not the Needs
It is important to inform Rocky View County that changes are required to the current emergency egress road process. The feedback I continue to receive from residents reinforces that the current planning process fails to reflect our local reality. I am now compiling these documented concerns to ensure that the deficiencies in the existing route studies are properly presented to the county officials. Your persistence in highlighting these critical oversights remains vital to our objective.

The growth of this movement demonstrates that our residents hold a clear vision for the safety of our community. This momentum proves that our demand for a more thoughtful and inclusive planning process is gaining necessary traction.

The emergency exit road needs to go north for obvious reasons. The southern option is totally unrealistic.
The process to date has been far too private and presumptive. Much more collaboration is required, the concerns associated with this petition are important. These are our homes!
Utterly un believable that there is no emergency road in place, have we not learned from the Fort Mac Murray fires that one way in and one way out jeopardizes lives? Time to act responsibly.
I believe there are other options available that would be better for this area and would provide equal if not more opportunities for emergency evacuations. I think other options would effect less people and have less effect on the natural beauty of Bragg creek and its surrounding area. I would like to see options involving the Tsuu T'ina reservation explored. No matter where this road is constructed I believe it will be used for more than just emergency situations and this needs to be considered when it is constructed.
One option puts a major road right through my front yard. I think the majority of these options are idiotic.
I fully support the points of concern listed in this petition and sincerely hope that the RVC will review them and react with more sensible options.
We really need this escape route, please... let's do it right because we won't get a second chance.

Constructing new bridges in this economy is ridiculous. Where is the money going to come from. Especially when there are existing roads that could be used
