Waterloo, McMaster, and the University of Toronto are competing against one another to see who can donate the most blood in the span of about a month. However, each school has members of the LGBT+ community unable to contribute because of Canada's laws.
Currently, sexually active homosexual men are unable to donate blood in Canada. Trudeau has proposed a policy to end this ban (https://www.liberal.ca/realchange/ending-msm-blood...), and we would like to hold him to this promise. Sign this petition if you support this policy!

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum this has gained lately and I never thought we would reach this point. This progress belongs entirely to all of you who cared enough to get involved.

It is unfair to segregate a group of people who have no differences between them and other people than their sexual orientation.
As a former University of British Columbia, Engineering Undergraduate Society Blood Drive Manager, I personally saw how Canadian Blood Services were constantly in shortage of blood. In light of this, and many other contributing factors - including the advance in technology and research - the MSM ban simply does not make sense.
Donating blood is something small that everyone can do the fact that restricting gay and bisexual men from donating on the basis that they have a higher chance of Vontracting an STI is barbaric. Yes they have higher occurences however a simple blood test of the donated blood can be done to screen the donations across the board and thus the solution is obvious no? Keep your promises Trudeau abolish this law
This is so important - as EngiQueers is a Canada-wide organization with many advocates in many provinces, engineers who are LGBTQ+ endlessly appreciate the support of our Engingeering Socities in communicating our stance to the Prime Minister.
The notion that gay men have a higher instance of STI that can be transmitted by blood is antiquated and thus should not be reflected in the rules governing blood donations.

We aren't in the onset of the AIDS epidemic anymore. That time has passed now we know why this ban is needless, why are we still keeping it around???
