The school board just confirmed that the track will be named in honor of Coach Smith. I am honestly in shock that this actually happened because of your kindness and effort. He deserves this honor so much and I am just happy I could help facilitate the thanks he earned.

To pay tribute to all of his HARDWORK and DEDICATION, we want to name the McGavock High School track in honor of Coach Ronnie H. Smith. Coach Smith created a positive impact on so many lives during his 37 years in Metro Nashville Public Schools.
He was instrumental in creating a LEGACY for the track program at McGavock High School. He was part of leading the Boys Track team to multiple State Championships as an Assistant Coach and a Head Coach.
While he was at Tennessee State University, he earned a rank of #4 in the World. Unfortunately, he was unable to participate on the Olympic Team due to a heart condition. The LEGENDARY Coach Ed Temple asked him to be an Assistant Coach for the TSU Tiger-belle Track Team. At that very moment, he decided to be a Track Coach for the rest of his career.

McGavock High class of 85 Coach Smith was Respected Dedicated and Committed to teaching you in the class room and on the field.
If there Ever was a man who deserve this honor it is Ronnie H. Smith. Our friendship spanned well over 20 years, he was more than a friend, he was a mentor and motivator. I owe my success as a track coach to him.
Senior Adviser Coach Role Model Colleague Teacher Mentor Friend and a shrewd teller of sly jokes....Ronnie had humor and joy!!!
Although I didn't run track coach Smith taught me a lot in s hence class. He helped round me and make me what I am today. We have suffered a huge loss with his passing. Rest in peace Mr Smith
I'm in agreeance with this petition, Coach Ronnie Smith was the best track coach in history while I attended McGavock High School, 92-96!!
