Bournemouth University Final Year Forensic Science Students Lacked Guidance For AFS Exam

I am a student representative for the Forensic Science course and have started this petition on behalf of the students on this course who took the final year Advanced Forensic Science Exam.
Students taking part in the Advanced Forensic Science Unit were not appropriately prepared or advised and did not receive the correct level of support in preparation for the new exam layout introduced this year.
This also applies to the layout and specificity of the questions given as they differed greatly from that of the multiple past papers that were utilised for revision purposes.
We feel this should be taken into account when marking our final exam papers.

I am currently compiling our formal complaint to the department head to ensure our lack of preparation is addressed before the final grades are released. Please send a direct message to your academic advisor today to express your concern about the exam format. We need to maintain this momentum until the faculty agrees to review our marking scheme.

The administration is finally taking notice of our concerns because of the momentum you built. Email the department head today and demand a formal meeting about our exam fairness.

Nothing like previous papers. Questions were on things either briefly explained during a single lecture or didn't feature at all. Items featured heavily during the unit did not feature at all in the exam but appears on all past papers. Layout should have been made clearer.
Having done a great amount of revision for this exam, I still came out feeling worried. The new system of 4 questions out of 6 mad this exam very stressful and some of the questions were highly specific and, had you not covered that very small topic during revison, therefore impossible to adequately answer. Additionally, one of the questions included was only covered in passing during the entirety of the lectures we received. Overall, a rather unfair exam which felt time it was made to trip us up rather than assess out knowledge and understanding of the topic.
The paper was different to all previous years and the questions relied heavily on memorizing a particular chart or diagram and not breadth of forensic content.
The exam was a joke. The questions were on minute topics that were briefly mentioned and the major topics that had previously come up weren't there at all. The lecture gave no help at all or any indication at potential topics where as every other lecturer had. There is no way we could memorise 19 two hour lectures for one two hour exam. The whole period after the last lecture was an absolute shambles and it needs to be changed to stop and future final years failing the exams because the lecturer can be bothered to help anyone.
I agree particularly with the lack of guidance on the new paper and specificity of the first two questions which lead to difficult decisions when choosing questions.

little to no advice was given in this course with regard to the exam, leaving us with only the three past papers and the hint that fires and blood would be included to use as a guide for revision. The paper didn't include a fire question; despite the fact we were told both fires and blood would be examinable. And the rest of the questions didn't follow the previous exam styles at all. In particular the blood question was on a niche method of bpa analysis designed and used by the guest speaker; something not found in any text book or general bpa material.
