Citizens Securing Life on 8th Street Bridge Allentown
We, the undersigned, petition all duly elected public officials, private administrators, agencies, and departments that oversee, maintain, and otherwise provide for the Albertus L. Meyers Bridge, locally known as the Eighth Street Bridge. We implore aforementioned entities to convene a task force in order to make effective modification(s) to the bridge for the abatement of suicide and suicide attempts. With modifications, Allentown and Lehigh County can, thereby, remove the stigma of the Eighth Street Bridge as the foremost place to commit suicide in the U.S. We call for the efficient and timely implementation of fencing, signage, and regular patrols to discourage suicides.
We petitioners span the greater Lehigh Valley area and stand united in our concern to promote a culture of life and civic pride in downtown Allentown, Pennsylvania.
The silence from city officials remains unacceptable even as the bridge crisis continues to impact our community. Text this link to three friends today and post the petition on your Facebook page to force this issue into the public conversation.

Too many people have lost their lives here. Just put up the fencing already it should have been done years ago.
