If you are annoyed with constantly being asked if you would like to make a donation to the flavor of the month (Prostate Cancer, Breast Cancer, MDA, People with Disabilities, UNICEF, Cystic Fibrosis, APA, AHA and so on...each and every time you make a purchase at a grocery store, retail store or any business that has become standard practice to have employees continually asks for a contribution while you are purchasing groceries or merchandise, but not limited to. Then this petition is for you to sign.
This petition is to stop the business from asking for a donation at the point of sale. Yet allow the business to offer support of such charity in a designated location on site other than at the point of sale. Supporting any of the above named Charities or any not mentioned is a great honor and support is always welcome. Just not at the point of sale.
California Residents only will qualify as petition signature. Signatures needed to initiate statute are 435,000. Let's work together and hit our number. Yes it can be accomplished!
Upon signing this petition please continue it's growth and pass it along to as many California Residents and friends that you can. Your information is for support of this petition only, and will be passed along to the California State Senate.
I do not appreciate being ambushed at the checkout line asking to donate money to any charity that I do not have time or preparation to properly research so I can see exactly where the money goes and how it is spent. It's being forced to acknowledge an open solicitation that is being an increasingly common practice in our daily lives. I think it is fine for a store to have signs and information available for any who are interested, but soliciting directly to a customer feels very invasive and annoying to me. Some people will even experience a sense of obligation purely out of guilt because they don't want to be perceived as stingy or cold-hearted. This practice of open solicitation at point-of-sale needs to stop.

I will sign petitions on issues I feel strongly about, but I shouldn't be asked for a donation request!

I don't mind being asked to sign petitions on issues I feel strongly about, but I shouldn't be asked to make a donation just for doing so!

It is so awkward when the cashier puts me on the spot like that. I just want to buy my milk and leave without feeling judged by the person behind me in line. Leave it for online or a bin by the door.
