Hello, Mima Neighbors,
This petition is to advocate for a change to our intersection. Almost 2 years ago, I presented the dangers and injuries that have occurred at this intersection at the Community Board meeting. In response, they sent a letter to the DOT and Port Authority requesting an evaluation of this intersection and implementation of protection for pedestrians. The only change that has been made is that there is slightly more traffic officer presence at certain hours of the morning. THIS IS NOT ENOUGH! Most days when I am trying to cross, I am on my own signaling to the cars to slow down, fighting my way through them, and often getting screamed at for making them stop so I can have the right of way. I know I am not alone! If there are enough of us that sign, I believe our representatives will take note, and perhaps more will be done to make this intersection safer for all.

It's a very dangerous intersection made worse by traffic blocking the intersection in every direction. There needs to be an aggressive traffic person there who is willing to stop traffic to protrect the intersection. This problem also delays crosstown buses which is a huge problem.
There are times I couldn't cross Dyer ave because of the cars ignores the traffic lights, especially on the weekends
In addition, there are deep potholes on Dyer and 42nd St. that never get fixed. Fighting one’s way through traffic and stepping into deep crevices and potholes is a regular occurrence.
Please make 42nd St and Dyer a safer place. Crossing the street most times during the day is immensely stressful and dangerous due to the likely risk of getting run over.
