More than ever the Town of Okotoks needs to build a larger competition pool. In 2006 the Town completed renovations to the Okotoks Recreation Centre and at that time they added a new pool that was too small long before the planning stages. Many people from various aquatics groups attended the planning meetings of the 2006 renovations and expressed to the Town that at 25 meter, 6 lane pool would not be big enough to meet the demands of our growing community. Now we have the opportunity again and we need your help. The Foothills Stingrays Swim Club alone turns away approximately 50 swimmers each year due to space restrictions. The small pool’s problems not only restricts clubs from growing; it also restricts revenue for both the town and the clubs. A larger pool would allow the aquatics groups to host competitions on national levels, but most importantly, it would allow for our youth to be involved in a wider variety of sports, such as competitive swimming, water polo, synchronized swimming and maybe even diving.
Okotoks is the 2nd youngest town
in Canada and we believe it is crucial to offer as many options for our youth
as possible, especially in the area of sports.
If you are a resident within the MD of Foothills please help us impress upon the Town of Okotoks council that a 10 lane 50 meter competitive pool is very important for positive growth of your town by signing this petition.

I was looking at the screen and just realized how much momentum we have picked up lately because honestly it feels like the whole town is finally waking up to the fact that our local pool situation has been outdated for far too long. It is wild to think about how many kids were being turned away from teams and now we are actually forcing a conversation that the planners clearly ignored back when they first built the place.

i coach synchronized swimming with the Okotoks Synchronized Swimming club. We are very crammed on space, and a new bigger pool would be amazing.
Another pool is an excellent idea for a fast growing young community like Okotoks. Currently, it is almost impossible to register your child in swim lessons unless you wake up early on registration day. The benefits of having a pool are enormous!
Swimming is a year round sport that serves the entire population of Okotoks. From infant to elderly, swimming is one of the best ways to keep fit and stay healthy. Okotoks needs a 50 metre, 10 lane pool to demonstrate a commitment to life long health in our community.
With the continued increase in population there is a need in Okotoks for another pool. This would not only benefit the various aquatic sports (swim club, synchro etc) but it would also provide greater access to swimming lessons which fill up too fast.
as a guard at the pool I see these swimmers suffering. There is also lifeguards competing for full time work so this would benefit our town's college students as well

Our current pool is a great small town facility. But we aren't a small town anymore. Having a 50m pool not only gives our community access to better opportunities for our swimming youth, it also keep our kids closer to home. Families won't need to travel into Calgary to get access to top quality facilities. Our new pool would also attract business to Okotoks. It's win win.
