We the citizens of the Town of Southington, CT, petition the Town Council, to approve a referendum for the November 2014 ballot, asking the people of the Town of Southington to approve a Pool for the Town High School.
Our High School boy and girls swim teams currently practice at a facility that offers them neither the time nor the proper equipment for the teams to be successful in their division. Our teams only get in 75 minutes of swim practice time per day at the Southington Y pool and our dive team must get their own transportation so they can practice in the Plainville HS pool. Other teams in our division are able to practice together as a team, at the same facility, for a time predicated at the coaches’ discretion.
It is time for our Town Council to take up the idea of adding a HS pool and giving our children a facility that will not only allow them to get in the practice they need to succeed as a team but adding a facility that the town can be proud of.

The feedback I have received from residents highlights a clear consensus that our current arrangements for the swim and dive teams are inadequate. I am currently coordinating with local representatives to ensure that our formal request for a referendum is placed on the upcoming legislative agenda.

It is time to add a pool to our Southington high school or community! As a parent of members of the girls high school swim team, boys high school swim team and diving team I can speak to the difficulties that our swimmers have. Having to find rides to the y pool, to the diving practices, having very limited time in the pool all keep our kids from having an equal footing with other teams. I will vote yes!
My son is now in college but participated on the SHS Dive team. It was very difficult to find transportation to Plainville each day and he also wished that he was able to practice with his whole team at one facility. The town YMCA is also too small to house the many "fans" that now come to watch this increasingly popular sport. A pool at the high school is long overdue!
The facility at the YMCA no longer fulfills the needs of the team, and our own divers have never been able to dive for home meets.
It would be wonderful to have gotten the extra time in before college swimming started to not only make my high school career stronger but the transition to college swimming a lot easier.
the SHS swim and dive program has grown on both the girls and boys teams from 20 per team to now over 40 per team. Our student practice time is less than half of schools with pools. Southington has competitive teams despite the lacking practice time.....lets see how well they do with a SHS pool.
This is very needed.
A highschool pool is necessary and long overdue. This program is just as important as the football field and other sports programs.

As a lifelong citizen and taxpayer of Southington, it is a joke that we can spend $1M on a turf field we don't need yet we have never had a pool at the high school.
It is time to add a pool to our Southington high school or community! As a parent of members of the girls high school swim team, boys high school swim team and diving team I can speak to the difficulties that our swimmers have.
