We ask that the permit for the subdivision of the remainder of Chikurubi, Salisbury District, be carefully reviewed, because this land appears to lie outside the jurisdiction of the City of Harare while still directly affecting the residents and community in Mandara.
The Mashonaland East Provincial Office has issued notice of a permit granted by the Minister of Local Government and Public Works for this subdivision. That decision matters to the people who live nearby, especially in Mandara, because any development that follows can change how the area functions, how people move through it, and how the community experiences daily life. When land use changes in one place, the effects are often felt in the surrounding neighbourhoods as well.
Those of us who live and work in the area deserve a full say on whether the project stemming from this subdivision should go ahead. We are concerned that development without proper community input could create avoidable harm, weaken local planning, and ignore the people most likely to be affected. Decisions about land should not be made only on paper; they should reflect the real lives, needs, and future of the community.
We therefore urge the authorities to give proper weight to public opinion, to consider the impact on Mandara, and to ensure that no development proceeds unless it is clearly justified and responsibly planned. Our voice is important, and it must be heard before any further steps are taken.
Further development will increase pressure on already over subscribed arterial roads. Routes through Mandara are already being traversed by commuters to and from Ruwa and outlaying developments and this Development will only add to this horrible congestion.
