We urge Renton, Washington, to support Ordinance #6199 so our city can respond to street camping in a way that protects public spaces while connecting people to help.

Those of us who call Renton home care deeply about the character of our city. We want streets, parks, and shared spaces that feel safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone. We also know homelessness is a serious problem, in Renton and across the country. It affects people and neighborhoods in many ways, and there is no simple fix. But doing nothing is not a solution.

Ordinance #6199 offers a practical path forward. It gives the city tools to limit street camping in specific zones where it creates the most concern for health and safety, while also directing people toward shelters and social services. That balance matters. Our community should not have to choose between compassion and order. We can and should have both.

A growing number of people in Washington State are struggling without stable housing, and public spaces are under more pressure than ever. Renton can lead by example by taking a measured approach that keeps shared areas usable and at the same time points people toward support services and housing resources.

Signing this petition means supporting a safer, cleaner, and more compassionate Renton. It means standing for a solution that respects the dignity of people experiencing homelessness while protecting the quality of life of everyone who lives, works, and travels here.
