Decision Makers: Mayor of Kuala Lumpur

We, the undersigned residents and property owners of 28 Mont’Kiara and the surrounding residential communities, wish to express our serious concern regarding the worsening traffic congestion at the T-junction near Mont’Kiara Meridin following the opening of the new road connecting Jalan Duta Kiara and Jalan Kiara 3.

Since the opening of the new road, traffic from different directions has converged at the junction, resulting in severe congestion, particularly during morning and evening peak hours and on rainy days. The current traffic conditions have caused significant inconvenience to road users and have adversely affected residents’ ability to enter and exit their residential premises safely and efficiently.

Our Key Concerns

1. Severe Traffic Congestion and Inadequate Traffic Control

Traffic congestion at the T-junction has become increasingly serious, particularly when vehicles from different directions attempt to enter the junction simultaneously. The lack of effective traffic control has contributed to prolonged queues and traffic obstruction.

2. Residents Unable to Exit 28 Mont’Kiara

During peak traffic periods, some motorists stop their vehicles within the yellow box in front of the 28 Mont’Kiara guardhouse, obstructing the entrance and exit. As a result, residents attempting to leave the condominium are unable to access the public road safely and promptly.

This situation is particularly concerning during emergencies, when residents may need immediate access to hospitals or other essential services.

3. Excessive Honking and Noise Nuisance

Due to the traffic congestion and vehicle obstruction, motorists frequently sound their horns in an attempt to move traffic forward. The repeated honking has become a nuisance to residents, particularly those living in units facing the affected road and junction. This disrupts residents’ peace, comfort and quality of life.

4. Increased Safety Risks During Peak Hours and Rainy Weather

Traffic congestion becomes more severe during rainy weather, when visibility and road conditions may deteriorate. Without effective traffic management, the situation may increase the risk of traffic accidents and create difficulties for residents, pedestrians and other road users.

Our Requests to DBKL

In view of the above concerns, we respectfully urge DBKL to take the following actions:

1. Conduct an Urgent Comprehensive Traffic Assessment

Conduct an on-site traffic assessment at the Mont’Kiara Meridin T-junction and the newly opened connecting road, particularly during morning and evening peak hours and rainy weather. The assessment should evaluate traffic volume, vehicle movements, junction capacity, road markings, traffic flow and the impact on access to nearby residential developments.

2. Consider Installing Smart Traffic Lights

Assess the feasibility of installing smart traffic lights or an adaptive traffic signal system to regulate traffic flow from the different approaches to the junction. The system should be designed to improve traffic distribution, reduce congestion and prevent vehicles from obstructing the yellow box and nearby residential entrances.

3. Arrange Traffic Police to Monitor and Manage Traffic

Arrange for traffic police to monitor the junction during peak hours, especially during the initial implementation of traffic management measures. Their presence would help regulate traffic flow, discourage motorists from blocking the yellow box and address traffic violations that contribute to congestion.

4. Implement Immediate Interim Traffic Management Measures

Pending the completion of the assessment and implementation of permanent solutions, DBKL is requested to consider immediate measures, including improved road markings and signage, stricter enforcement against vehicles blocking the yellow box, and on-site traffic management during peak hours.

5. Review the Traffic Impact of the Newly Opened Road

Review whether the current junction layout and traffic arrangements adequately accommodate the additional traffic generated by the newly opened connecting road. Where necessary, DBKL should consider appropriate road layout modifications or other engineering measures to improve traffic circulation and protect access to nearby residential developments.

Conclusion

We believe that timely intervention by DBKL is necessary to address the growing traffic problem and prevent the situation from deteriorating further.

We respectfully request that DBKL investigate this matter, conduct the necessary traffic assessment and implement appropriate short-term and long-term solutions. We also request written feedback on the proposed actions and the expected timeline for addressing these concerns.

Our objective is to ensure safer and smoother traffic movement, preserve unobstructed access to residential premises, minimise noise nuisance and improve the overall living environment for the surrounding communities.

We sincerely hope DBKL will give this matter its urgent attention and take the necessary action in the interest of public safety and residents’ well-being.

The new road was definitely done without proper planning and feedbacks from the residents around. We are seeing a massive increase of traffic and it’s causing so much of chaos around the junctions.

The traffic is now getting dangerous as motorcycles come speeding through from the new bridge over the drain. Nobody wants to give way; need a small roundabout to slow traffic down

Ancillary problem of cars parked along the MK Meridin shops is exacerbating the problems described in the petition. Please enforce traffic rules, don't let MK28 be the dumping ground of adjacent developments' access quick-fixes

The road has not benefited Mont Kiara residents but created traffic congestion. People from Segambut Dalam and Kepong are just tres passing and create traffic congestions in Mont Kuara.

If safety aren’t part of the plan, then you are planning for disaster.

I live next to 28 Mont Kiara. It is very dangerous as traffic is from all directions at the junction. Everyone’s safety is at stake. I feel so stressed when leaving for work and coming home to the heavy traffic at the junction.

Yes is very important because I saw from the first day car crash and after it happened few times more. This situation is creating also safety risk when rush time to go out of the condo because cars are the crossing of existing which push resident to force the way and when turning right from condo to Jalan Kiara there is blind spot on the left. Already resident hit motorcycle.
