Maine should remove the cell phone ban in schools because completely banning technology takes away tools that can make students more successful. Phones, MacBooks, headphones, and smartwatches can help students research information, stay organized, complete assignments, and access learning resources. Students should also be allowed to use these devices during lunch and free periods because those are times when they are not actively learning in class. They could use their phones to check in with family, listen to music with headphones, catch up on messages, or simply relax. Rather than treating technology as a distraction, schools should teach students how to use it responsibly by creating clear rules about when and how devices can be used. Students will eventually enter a world where technology is everywhere, so schools should prepare them to use it responsibly instead of simply taking it away. A balanced policy would protect learning while still giving students freedom and access to technology when it is appropriate.
I believe that as a student athlete, and a girl with sometimes unexpected hygiene emergencies, it is very important to me that my privacy is respected and i do not have to contact home through the main office for everything
