I am a 9th grader who is just entering high school, and I believe that some of the new phone laws are not completely justified. From what I have read and seen, many of the people who support these laws make claims about phones without providing enough facts or statistics to show how serious the problem really is. I, as well as many of my classmates, use our phones responsibly, and I believe that only a small number of students actually cause problems by using their phones during class. Phones can also be important for communication with our families. For example, if something happens at home, I want to be able to know about it. However, I am not arguing that we should get rid of the rules completely. I believe there should be a compromise. The phone pouches used in classrooms seem to work because I have noticed fewer students using their phones and more students connecting with the people around them. I think we should keep the phone pouches because they encourage students to put their phones away without making the rules feel overly strict. Instead of making the law so restrictive toward students, I believe we should find a balance that allows students to stay focused in class while still having reasonable access to their phones when there is a legitimate need.
