For more than 30 years, the City of Valparaiso has directed polluted stormwater into our lake.
This has caused severe ecological damage — killing frogs, salamanders, crawdads, baby catfish, turtles, and other wildlife that once thrived here.
This contamination threatens both wildlife and human health. Pollutants include:
• Pathogens
• Blood and body fluids
• Pet waste
• Pesticides
• Gasoline
• Oil
• Automotive fluids
We, the undersigned, demand that the City of Valparaiso take responsibility and act immediately.
We call for the following actions:
1. Immediately stop all polluted stormwater discharge into the lake.
Restore and revive natural wetlands and install modern ultra‑filtration systems.
2. Do not take any water out of the lake until Action #1 is completed.

We love Flint Lake have lived, played and fished it for years! It is seriously being endangered with the chemicals please help stop this nonsense!
I’ve been watching this lake with family for over 4 decades. Not sure we can even let our little ones play in it this year. So sad.
I have lived here most of my life. The lake is in the worst condition ever. We forgot to mention the fertilizer a lawn chemicals that came with the valpo neighborhoods.
North Valpo has 1 last chance to get an enlightened, re-envisioned, non-polluting stormwater plan for the whole area north of the line of demarcation.amd /or the Lake Michigan watershed sign on Valparaiso St. A new plan needs to be done with extreme carefulness and be made a priority project for the city engineer to look at the watershed in a new light. And quickly. The status quo is simply is not enough.
Flint Lake is my Happy Place! We must be the protectors of this beautiful lake!
We can do better, Valparaiso!
I grew up swimming all summer long in Flint Lake. I’m afraid to dip my toes in it now with how polluted it is. Thank you.

My 11 month old son enjoys our lake almost everyday! His health and safety is my number one priority! I want a clean and safe lake for him to continue to enjoy for the rest of his life!
