We ask our local leaders, specifically the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors, to take immediate action to expedite the process, to staff
Oak Shores-Lake Nacimiento with firefighters, available to respond to emergencies. This includes asking that the County delivers appropriate additional funding to the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department. The goal is to establish a permanent fire station with permanent firefighter staff adjacent to or within the oak shores community. The aforementioned firefighters can also assist in additional emergencies with all the adjoining communities of Lake Nacimiento.
Right now, the Oak Shores and greater North Shore community does not have firefighters to respond when emergencies happen. All fire, rescue, and medical calls are left to SLO County Fire Station 33 in Heritage Ranch, and that means a minimum response time of 30 minutes. If Station 33’s resources are already committed to another incident or otherwise unavailable, the response time to Oak Shores may increase to an hour.
That kind of delay leaves families, homes, and lives at risk. When there is a fire, a rescue, or a medical emergency, every minute matters.
This is a basic public safety and liability need. Oak Shores and the greater Lake Nacimiento community deserve protection that is close by and ready when it is needed.
This full time staffed firehouse has been a long time talking about, it’s past time to make it a reality for the safety of our loved ones as well as our homes.
