  1. The residents of Thousand Oaks, CA want to be proactive in preventing their homes and businesses from burning down in future wildfires. We are surrounded by open space which is overrun by dried brush just waiting to catch fire. COSCA (Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency) is the agency who manages the land in question. They are claiming that they have satisfied all the guidelines and regulations set in place regarding brush clearance which is currently 100 feet from any structure. We are petitioning to have more brush clearance on our open space hills that border our properties before the impending fire season. All of the studies COSCA points to regarding recommendations for how much to clear and where are out dated and pre Woolsey fire. We need action NOW!!

My family still wakes up fearing the smell of smoke every time the wind picks up. We are nearly at five hundred signatures and I need you to forward this link to your neighbors so we can show COSCA that our safety is not something they can ignore.

Seeing one hundred people sign this gives me so much relief because living next to these overgrown hills keeps me up at night. I know too many neighbors who lost everything in the Woolsey fire and we simply cannot wait for another disaster to force a change. Your support proves that we all feel the exact same urgency about our safety.

Seeing the count climb toward one hundred names reminds me how many of us lie awake during high wind events worried about our homes. We need to hit this milestone right now to prove that our neighborhood concerns cannot be ignored any longer. Please get this link to your neighbors today so we can push past this mark before the next fire weather watch.

We live in the Summit homes right off of Westlake blvd and Autumn Ridge. The home across the street from us burned down in the Woolsey Fire 2 years ago despite the fact that they had just cleared their entire slope. Please help!!

My home in Calabasas burned in the Woolsey fire 2 years ago and it may have been spared if the brush in the surrounding hills were cleared more by the city/county. I strongly endorse this request for maximum brush clearance as I am now living in Thousand Oaks Westlake Village.

The "Hillcrest Open Space Assn." Hillside, which is immediately adjacent to our "Northgate Condos" complex needs to trim back the over 7' weeds which cover the hillside now, after the "Woolsey Fire" blazed through Nov., 2018, and came so close to us!

Goats have been successful in Agoura Hills where the Morrison Ranch HOA has hired the goats to eat the tall grass and remove the fuel. The city of Agoura Hills has used the goats to clear some other properties successfully in town to prevent fires when the embers blow in the Santa Ana winds.

During the mandatory evacuation for the Woolsey Fire, we were told that embers could ignite a home up to one mile away from a fire. The 100 foot rule is totally inadequate; several homes were destroyed south of Hillcrest during the Woolsey Fire.

Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (read City Council and CRPD) refuse to act on this horrendous situation. They claim they are protecting native vegetation. We have presented the solution of using goats to clear a fire break(s). They won't budge.

Private landowners of undeveloped ACRES of land need to be accountable - change ordinances to clear brush MORE THAN 5 FEET from street - in todays environment that is useless when a fire and winds ignite. ie. Peacock/Kanan on Westlake Blvd all the way to Ralphs has plant of brush that is privately owned and undeveloped for years.
