RE: Request for Eagle Valley to modify how hole #2 is mowed and maintained for the 2027 season.
Right now, the hillside on #2 is kept at rough length, and that setup can punish good drives and slow down play. We believe the hole can still be challenging without making the landing area so severe. Since Eagle Valley is already being mowed on a regular basis, we do not believe this would add extra maintenance expense.
We are asking Eagle Valley to consider one of these options:
1. Cut the entire hillside to fairway length grass, keeping the fairway width consistent from the top of the hill to the bottom.
2. Cut the entire hillside to first cut length instead of rough length.
3. Cut a narrower fairway-length lane down the middle of the hill, rewarding the optimal drive.
Any of these changes would still leave a demanding approach shot on #2, but they would better reward a well-hit drive instead of punishing it. That would make the hole fairer and more enjoyable for regular players while keeping the course challenging and improve pace of play.
Those of us who have signed this are regular players at Eagle Valley and support this idea.
We respectfully ask that this change be considered for the 2027 season.
I have played Eagle Valley since it's opening in 1998, and have been a Royal Club/Eagle Club member for many of those years. I love playing here, and it will always be my home course, but this is one of it's VERY few shortcomings. I believe that not only would mowing the hill on #2 to fairway length enhance it's playability, it would enhance EV's reputation as one of the Twin Cities' best municipal courses, willing to adapt and improve.
